Great new’s for fans of OWN TV‘s Queen Sugar, Oprah has given the green light for a third season! Showrunner Ava DuVernay has also signed has signed a first-look TV deal with Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films for television and digital media.

“I’m so proud of Ava and her ability as a filmmaker to challenge the status quo and push for inclusiveness on screen and behind the camera. I love, love, love the work we have been able to create so far. I am looking forward to developing many more meaningful projects together,” Oprah

DuVernay’s upcoming Netflix Limited Series, Central Park Five, will be DuVernay’s first release under her first look deal with Harpo Films.

Queen Sugar follows the lives of the Bordelon siblings in Louisiana, Nova Bordelon (played by Rutina Wesley), Charley Bordelon (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) and Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe), who come together to revive their late father’s farm.

Michael Michele and Roger Guenveur Smith will be joining season three to play the estranged parents of Darla (played Bianca Lawson) which will give us a deeper look into Darla’s background as she is perhaps, one of the shows more complex characters.
