Taraji P. Henson has revealed that she will be not only starring but, producing a film based on the murder of Emmett Till. 14-year-old Till was lynched in Mississippi in 1955, after a white woman claimed that he had offended her in her family’s grocery store. His brutal death, sparked the next phase of the Civil Rights Movement.

Speaking to GlobalGrind‘s Bloxilla, Henson said, “We don’t have a start date yet, but the deal definitely has been done. That’s one [film] that I’ve been passionate about since Trayvon Martin was murdered.”

In the movie, Henson will star as the late Mamie Till-Mobley, mother of Emmett Till. The film will be directed by John Singleton (Poetic Justice, Boyz n the Hood, Baby Boy, Higher Learning.)

Taraji P. Henson is currently busy promoting her new movie, Proud Mary, which is in theaters across the country January 12th. Make sure you show out to support Taraji’s new release!
