It’s a new year and with a new year comes a new year’s worth of music. To kick off 2018 singer-songwriter H.E.R released a song titled “My Song”, which is about home, love and the power of music. The artist formerly known as Gabi Wilson, delivers a sultry vocal performance on top of soothing instrumentals. The song is a stripped down single that only consists of vocals and the piano. “My Song” is different from most of her previous offerings, as it puts a spotlight on H.E.R’s talent as not only a vocalist and songwriter but also as an instrumentalist.
“Let me sing my song,” she sings. “I know this is my home / All that I’ve been wishing / I found what I’ve been missing / Right here from the start / So let me sing my song.”
The song also showcases vulnerability and conveys her feelings about producing music.
“When the weight of the world is on my shoulders,” she sings.” You would take away the pain/ Through the storm, the sun still shines/ With you by my side, I’m not afraid.”
