Watch Issa Rae’s Hilarious Pitch For “Ladera Heights 90041”

by Yah Yah

Gossip Girl is trending, but not for the reasons you may think… it’s way more impressive than whatever you’ve conjured up in your mind. The show is trending because Insecure creator Issa Rae pitched a show for Black teenagers, based on 90’s hit show, Beverly Hills 90210 and Gossip Girl, in her recent feature with The New Yorker.

In the video, publication The New Yorker, invited creators of several hit shows to film their “fantasy pitches”. As well as Issa Rae, Rachel Bloom(“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”), James Davis(“Hood Adjacent”) and Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer (“Broad City”) all deliver their quick-witted concepts.

Off the bat, Issa Rae’s pitch may seem like something right out of left field, but if you spend just a little time mulling over the potential mash-up, you have to admit, it’s pretty perfect! The number of sitcoms and drama series’ on television which currently cater to Black teenagers are few and far between. Realistically, if Issa were ever to do a show for Black teenagers, it would most likely be more relatable than 90210, but there is a huge void. An age-appropriate Insecure-esque show would be amazing!

So, ShineMyCrown votes “yes” to Lil’ Ritchie and Ladera Heights 90041! Please, Issa, make this happen!
