Lena Waithe made history last night (September 18) when she became the first Black Woman to win an Emmy Award for writing.

Alongside her co-writer Aziz Ansari, the pair nabbed the award for Outstanding Writing for the “Thanksgiving" episode of their Netflix Original series, Master Of None. The episode centered around Waithe's character, Denise's coming out to her mother as a lesbian, which profoundly impacted her their relationship, spanning over a decade worth of Thanksgiving dinners and how they impacted the evolution of Waithe's identity.

Watch Lena Waithe's epic acceptance speech below.

What was most beautiful about Waithe's acceptance speech, is that way that her co-writer and co-star Aziz Ansari stood to the side and let her have her moment. It was a major win for the both of them, and we congratulate them on their success and wish them much more in the future!
