ShineMyCrown Spotlight: Halima Aden – Miss USA’s First Somali American Winner Breaks Barriers | @Kinglimaa

by Yah Yah

She’s not your regular 19 years old, Halima Aden is the only hijab sporting supermodel and she’s here to take over. The world first took notice of her during last year’s Miss Minnesota pageant wearing the headscarf which is a symbol of modesty making her the first person ever to do so. Her accomplishments didn’ t come easily to her, born in Kenya her family resided in a refugee camp and moved to the U.S when she was six years old, settling in St. Cloud Minnesota.

In 2016 the model participated in the Miss USA Minnesota pageant and she became the first contestant to wear a burkini and a hijab which most felt was a great move to diversify the industry. Earlier this year she signed with IMG Models and since then she’s broken beauty standards and she’s redefined stereotypes for Muslim women.

Back in February, she debuted down the runway for Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 5 during New York Fashion Week. Aden continues her trailblazing with becoming the first female to wear a hijab on the cover of Vogue and Allure magazine. She’s recently become one of the faces of Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty campaign. This young model has accomplished a lot so far and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for her. Check her out in Fenty Beauty’s ad below.
