Tina Turner Speaks Her Marriage With Ike Turner: “I Have Forgiven Him”

They say the best way to heal yourself from being hurt in the past is to forgive. Forgiving someone is hard to do, but it’s best if you want to move on in life. That’s what legendary singer Tina Turner did.

Everyone knows the story of Ike and Tina Turner from the 1993 biopic ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’. The film depicted the turner’s turbulent relationship that lasted for 14 years. During an interview back in 1990 Ike admitted that he physically abused Tine while they were married, stating “All the fights Tina and I had were about her being sad about something. I get real emotional if you’re worrying and don’t tell me what it is. Then I can’t about nothing else. So I’d slap her or something like that.”

In a recent interview with The Times UK, the Rock ’n Roll Hall Of Fame inductee opened up about the domestic violence she endured throughout that marriage and how she has forgiven her ex-husband for what he’s done.

“As an old person, I have forgiven him, but it would not work with him, He asked for one more tour with me, and I said, ‘No, absolutely not.’ Ike wasn’t someone you could forgive and allow him back in. It’s all gone, all forgotten.”

Along with that she also opened up about how she still thinks of Ike, who passed away back in 2007. “I don’t know what the dreams are about,” she explained. “The dreams are still there — not the violence, the anger. I wonder if I’m still holding something in.”

Tina who now lives in Scotland with her husband Erwin Bach is a true testament to how to overcome hurt and pain. Forgiving an abuser sometimes is the hardest thing to do but, in the end, it’s the best.
