Gabrielle Union says "miss me with 'dress modestly' sh*t!"
The Being Mary Jane star spoke on behalf of sexual violence and harassment victims on Twitter yesterday.
She explained that victims usually remain silent for many reasons like fear of judgment, victim shaming/blaming, loss of job, fear of violence and retaliation. She also explained how these incidents can take place anywhere, especially in the workplace.
Some of her tweets also stemmed from anop-ed by Mayim Bialikstar, who wrote that she dresses modestly as a "self-protecting" choice. Union recalled her own experience of being raped at work and how a female friend asked her what she had worn at the time of the incident.
Union also discusses her rape in her upcoming book, titled "We're Gonna Need More Wine."
The book features a powerful collection of essays about gender, sexuality, race, beauty, Hollywood, and what it means to be a modern woman. It's set to release on October 17th.
