Stacey Dash Withdraws from California’s Congressional Race

When Stacey Dash announced her intentions to run for Congress, many of us were left both shocked and bemused. Some did celebrate Dash’s bid because even though her views might be somewhat controversial, she is a Black woman – and the more of us visibly in positions of power, the better. Most people did not see how Dash with her jaded views on the Black community could represent people of color.

The former Hollywood actress star former Fox News contributor spoke to Cosmopolitan to announce that she would be withdrawing her bid to run for Congress.

“I started this run with the intention to address the pressing issues in the district where I live,” Dash said in a statement to Cosmo. “I hoped, and remain hopeful, that I can assist people living here on the national level.”

“My goal was, and remains, to improve the lives of people who have been forgotten for decades by the Democratic Party… At this point, I believe that the overall bitterness surrounding our political process, participating in the rigors of campaigning, and holding elected office would be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of my family.”

Dash’s contract with Fox was not renewed in early 2017 and went viral after stating that Black History Month should be eliminated because it only furthers racial inequality.
