A tragic act of violence has left a New Jersey community in shock after a nurse was killed at her workplace in what authorities are describing as a murder-suicide involving her estranged husband.
According to police in Atlantic County, 38-year-old Victoria Alexander was fatally shot early Monday morning, April 13, at the Excelcare Center, where she worked as a nurse. Investigators say her estranged husband, Brandon Alexander, 35, carried out the attack before taking his own life.
The incident occurred around 6 a.m. in Egg Harbor Township as Victoria Alexander arrived for her shift. Authorities say Brandon Alexander had been waiting in the parking lot and used his vehicle in an attempt to block her in.
Despite the initial confrontation, Victoria Alexander managed to escape her car and run inside the facility in an apparent attempt to seek safety. Police say Brandon Alexander followed her into the building and shot her multiple times. She died at the scene.
He then turned the gun on himself. While initially surviving the self-inflicted gunshot wound, Brandon Alexander later died at a hospital on Tuesday morning, according to authorities.
Investigators also revealed that he left behind two suicide notes, though the contents have not been publicly disclosed. Officials say the motive remains under investigation.
The killing has drawn renewed attention to the dangers of domestic violence, particularly in cases involving estranged partners. The fact that the attack occurred at a healthcare facility—typically considered a place of care and safety—has further intensified concern among healthcare workers and the broader community.
Law enforcement has not released additional details about prior incidents between the couple or whether any protective measures were in place.
