Victoria Monét is getting candid about her dating life, relationships, and the reality of navigating romance while living in the spotlight. During a recent conversation about love and attraction, the Grammy-winning singer admitted that dating women has not been the experience she once imagined it would be.
Victoria Monét explained that she initially believed relationships with women would feel easier and more emotionally connected. Instead, she said her experiences have left her disappointed at times.
“I would always imagine that girls would be easier to date,” Monét shared. “My experience [dating women] has been a little bit worse.”
The “On My Mama” singer reflected on how many of her interactions with women have felt more physical than serious. According to Monét, she often feels admired for her beauty and appearance rather than approached with genuine romantic intentions.
“Girls, they don’t really approach me seriously. They approach me sensually,” she explained. “I’m like, ‘Well, I would want it to be something more serious.’ I haven’t really gotten that approach from many women. They’re just like, ‘Oh, she’s beautiful. She’s attractive,’ or talking about my body and stuff. It’s like a sexual thing.”
Monét admitted she has questioned whether her experiences simply come down to the type of people she has dated. Still, she noted that she has yet to find the emotional connection she hoped for while dating women.
As the conversation continued, the singer opened up about her current mindset when imagining a future relationship. Monét said she has been leaning toward wanting energy that feels opposite to her own femininity.
“When I think of my next relationship, I’ve been in a space where I want, because I’m feeling so feminine, like I want the opposite energy,” she said.
The singer also shared that most of the women she has dated have been more feminine-presenting themselves, which has influenced how she now thinks about compatibility and long-term partnership. While reflecting on relationships, family, and future goals, Monét admitted she is still figuring out exactly what kind of connection feels right for her.
“Maybe it’s a masculine woman. I’m not sure,” she said candidly, before adding that she also thinks about having children and the type of partner dynamic that would best fit her life.
The singer has spent the past year balancing major career milestones, from releasing new music to graduating from culinary school, while continuing to share more personal reflections about womanhood, motherhood, relationships, and self-discovery.
