Blue Ivy Carter may have attended her very first Met Gala at just 14 years old, but it was one small moment on the red carpet that ended up stealing the internet’s attention.

The teen daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z quickly went viral after footage surfaced showing her refusing to remove her sunglasses while posing for photos on fashion’s biggest night.

In clips shared online and later obtained by the Daily Mail, Blue Ivy confidently walked the iconic Met steps in a cream Balenciaga bubble-hem gown paired with a matching bomber jacket draped off her shoulders. She completed the look with cat-eye sunglasses that she appeared determined to keep on despite repeated requests from those around her.

As cameras flashed and crowds shouted, Beyoncé’s longtime publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, was seen motioning for Blue Ivy to remove the shades for pictures. When that did not work, stylist Ty Hunter reportedly stepped in to help. Eventually, Jay-Z himself appeared to lean toward his daughter, seemingly repeating the same request so she could hear him over the noise surrounding the carpet.

Blue Ivy, however, did not budge.

The teenager calmly kept the sunglasses on throughout the exchange, continuing to pose and walk the carpet while social media users immediately began praising what many described as her confidence and cool composure under pressure.

Meanwhile, Beyoncé appeared completely unfazed by the moment. The superstar smiled proudly beside her daughter while wearing a dramatic skeleton-inspired gown designed by Olivier Rousteing. The pair walked the carpet together during Beyoncé’s first appearance as a Met Gala co-chair in a decade.

The moment added another layer of buzz to Blue Ivy’s already headline-making debut. In addition to her standout fashion moment, the teenager also became one of the youngest people to attend the event in recent years. Though organizers previously told The Hollywood Reporter that the Met Gala is “not an appropriate event for people under 18,” exceptions can reportedly be made when minors attend alongside their parents.

Blue Ivy’s appearance came as Beyoncé served as one of the event’s co-chairs alongside Nicole Kidman, Lauren Sánchez Bezos and Anna Wintour.

Still, despite the historic fashion night, fans online seemed most entertained by the now-viral father-daughter moment. For many viewers, Blue Ivy casually ignoring Jay-Z’s repeated request while keeping her shades firmly in place only added to her growing reputation as a young star fully comfortable in the spotlight.
