WNBA’s Chicago Sky forward, Angel Reese, has candidly revealed that her income from the league doesn’t cover her expenses. In a recent conversation with her fans online, Reese discussed her financial situation, noting that her other income streams maintain her lifestyle.
The LSU star-turned-pro shed light on the financial reality many WNBA players face, saying her salary doesn’t come close to covering her bills.
“I just hope y’all know the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all,” Reese said with a laugh. “I don’t even think that pays one of my bills. Literally.”
While chatting with her friend, Reese guessed her annual WNBA salary, which she said was about $74,000. But when she did the math, she realized the check wouldn’t even cover her rent for the month, which is a staggering $8,000.
“Yo, I’m living beyond my means. No, my rent is more than that,” Reese joked, adding, “That WNBA check don’t pay a thing.”
Her friend chimed in, suggesting that the WNBA money might cover her car payment, to which Reese laughed and admitted it might be the only thing it covers.
“I wouldn’t be able to get a sandwich without the other streams of income,” Reese added, underscoring just how important her various financial ventures have become in helping her maintain her lifestyle.
Earlier in May, Angel Reese has a message for those still offended by her ‘low’ WNBA salary.
“Obviously, people thought me leaving college I would take a huge pay gap and pay drop,” Reese began. “I wasn’t getting paid in college, so that check that I do get here is a bonus. Being able to play for, what, four or five months and get $75,000 on top of the other endorsements that I’m doing.
“I think it’s a plus for me. I’m playing a game I love – not for the money. I play because I love basketball.”
