Nia Long is reportedly in a pay dispute with Lionsgate over her role in the upcoming Michael biopic, raising questions about salary agreements and on-screen changes tied to the film.

According to reports, the situation centers on a “favored nations” clause in Nia Long’s contract, which was meant to ensure she would be paid at least as much as her co-stars. However, she allegedly discovered that Colman Domingo and Miles Teller received higher compensation for their roles in the project.

Nia Long, who portrays Katherine Jackson in the film, is now reportedly considering mediation after receiving a smaller paycheck than expected under the terms of her agreement. The dispute has been described as quiet but serious, unfolding behind the scenes as the film continues to generate attention.

The role itself appears to have evolved during production. Early versions of the script reportedly gave Nia Long’s character a more prominent presence, particularly in the third act, including a key scene near the film’s conclusion. Subsequent revisions, however, led to a reduction in her screen time, with several scenes involving Katherine Jackson reportedly cut from the final version.

At the same time, the film underwent additional changes, including reshoots and edits tied to sensitive subject matter. Those adjustments reportedly resulted in significant payouts for director Antoine Fuqua and producer Graham King, who were compensated for the additional work.

It remains unclear whether the script revisions and reshoots are directly connected to the reported pay discrepancy. What is clear is that Nia Long’s contract terms and the final compensation she received are now at the center of the dispute, with mediation being considered as the next step.
