Korra Obidi says her livestreamed birth became the most profitable moment of her social media career, ultimately helping her buy a home in Los Angeles.
Speaking during an interview with One54Africa, the performer shared how the experience unfolded. She explained that after being faced with an $8,000 hospital bill, she decided to explore a different option for the birth of her second daughter. Confident in her health, she chose to work with a midwife and deliver at home.
According to Korra, the birth took place in her bathroom without complications. She described the moment as smooth, noting that shortly after giving birth, she was already back on social media, sharing updates with her audience.
It was during that time that she decided to livestream the experience. Keeping the focus on her face, she connected with viewers in real time, a decision she says led to her highest earnings on social media. The financial return from that livestream, she added, later contributed to the down payment for her home, even as she navigated personal challenges, including being asked to leave a previous residence.
Korra’s journey into the spotlight began long before that moment. Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, she entered the entertainment industry as a child actor in Nollywood. Over the years, she expanded her reach internationally, eventually relocating to Los Angeles, where she appeared on the reality competition show So You Think You Can Dance.
Her career has continued to blend music and dance, drawing from a wide range of global influences. From performing in cities like Muscat and Dubai to showcasing her artistry on international stages, she has built a platform that reflects both her cultural roots and her global experiences.
