Earlier this morning, a school in Rockford, Washington, close to Spokane, WA, faced tragedy as a shooter opened fire at Freeman High School. The shooting proved to be fatal as one student died, with three more children rushed to hospital with injuries.

According to the Associated Press, the surviving victims are in a “stable condition” and surrounded by their loved ones.

Rockford is a small community, with only 500 residents and is close to the Idaho border. Freeman High School has 327 students in total. The suspect was detained shortly after the shooting, but their identity has not yet been revealed.

Stephanie Lutje told The Associated Press that she was relieved to hear her son was safe after his high school near Freeman was put on lockdown. She commended the school district for its communication with parents.

“It’s been amazing, within probably 15-20 minutes of hearing about it, I’d already received a phone call, I’d already received a text message saying that their school is OK,” she said.
