It has been announced that Alicia Keys will be producing a biopic on famed African American choreographer Alvin Ailey.
According to Deadline, Fox Searchlight has closed a deal to develop a film based on the life and work of the groundbreaking figure in American culture and one of the most influential choreographers of the 20th century. The project is fully supported by the Ailey organization, which controls the rights to Ailey’s choreography.
Keys will be producing the project alongside Judy Kinberg, and Susan Lewis from AK Worldwide, Rachel Cohen and Jana Edelbaum from iDeal Partners.
Fox Searchlight has also secured the rights to Jennifer Dunning’s seminal biography Alvin Ailey: A Life In Dance.
“We are thrilled to be working with these incredible partners to bring to the screen the amazing journey and revolutionary choreography of Alvin Ailey, whose life and legacy profoundly impacted people of all backgrounds around the world,” Artistic Director Robert Battle told Deadline.
