Former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah is sharing her reflections from behind bars, offering a candid glimpse into her life at FPC Bryan Prison in Texas.

She began serving her sentence at the prison for her involvement in a telemarketing scheme exactly one year ago.

In an interview with People, Shah, 50, opened up about the profound changes she has undergone during her time in prison, highlighting the role of therapy, faith, and her fellow inmates in her journey.

She also reveals the advice given to her by her husband of nearly 30 years, Sharrieff.

“I have been away from my family for one year. The depth of my pain is unrelenting and indescribable. However, throughout this painful process, God has substantially increased my humility, gratitude, and courage,” Shah tells People.

Reflecting on her initial struggles upon entering FPC Bryan, Shah acknowledges the resilience of her fellow inmates, whose battles with circumstances far worse than hers have inspired and humbled her.

“In my daily prayers, I ask God for the courage to realize I am worthy of a second chance. Through the countless therapy sessions and classes I have taken, I am finding the courage to set my fear and guilt aside,” Shah shares.

She also recounts a moment of joy she experienced during a Barbie-themed hair competition at the prison, where she participated as “Adventure Barbie” alongside fellow inmate Ashley Rhea Johnson (“AJ”). Shah credits her husband’s advice for helping her find the courage to smile and embrace moments of happiness despite her circumstances.

“There is still so much I must learn while I am here at FPC Bryan, I am grateful God has given me a better foundation to appreciate his unwavering love and blessings to fight for that moment of happiness each day,” Shah writes.

Shah’s journey to prison began in March 2021 when she was arrested along with her assistant Stuart Smith. Charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering, Shah initially proclaimed her innocence but later entered a guilty plea in July 2022. She was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison, later reduced by a year.

“I am sorry. My actions have hurt innocent people,” Shah expressed at her sentencing. “I want to apologize by saying, I am doing all I can to earn the funds to pay restitution.”

Shah’s introspective reflections offer a glimpse into her personal growth and resilience as she navigates life behind bars.
