Tiffany Haddish is opening up about her connection to Africa, revealing that her decision to purchase a small island in Eritrea is rooted in heritage, healing, and a full-circle personal journey.

During a recent conversation with Angie Martinez, the comedian confirmed she owns what she describes as a private island off the Eritrean coast. Tiffany spoke about the property with humor, explaining that it is technically a sandbar with vegetation that becomes partially submerged when the tide rises. Still, she considers it a meaningful part of her growing real estate portfolio and a symbol of her connection to her father’s homeland.

Tiffany’s relationship with Eritrea traces back to her late father, Tsihaye Reda Haddish, who was deported when she was just three years old. She grew up in difficult circumstances after his departure. Her mother, Leola, later suffered severe brain damage following a car accident, which led to schizophrenia and instability at home. As a result, Tiffany and her half-siblings entered foster care before eventually being reunited under their grandmother’s care.

As an adult, Tiffany reconnected with her father and began exploring her Eritrean roots more deeply. She visited the country and embraced that part of her identity, a journey that became even more significant after her father’s death in 2018. She later obtained Eritrean citizenship as a way to honor his memory and solidify her ties to the country.

In the interview, Tiffany shared that she owns multiple homes in Eritrea, some of which she inherited, and added that purchasing the island felt like a natural next step. She described the land as modest but full of potential, noting that it could support development such as a dock or structure.

When asked what motivated the purchase, Tiffany pointed to both practicality and personal meaning. She spoke about the beauty of the location and the opportunity it presented, emphasizing that it was affordable and within reach. At the same time, she framed the decision as something bigger, reflecting on ownership and legacy.

Tiffany Haddish noted that owning an island is a rare accomplishment and expressed satisfaction in being able to say she has achieved it.
