Latto is speaking out on her reported tension with Cardi B, confirming that her viral “Gimme Dat” lyric was indeed about the Bronx rapper and making it clear she will not be accepting any apology gestures, including what she described as an “apology bag.”
During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, Latto addressed the ongoing speculation head-on, explaining that the line came from a very specific moment in her life. “Well, yes, it was about Cardi,” she said, adding that she was “at an early stage of my pregnancy” when she rushed to the studio to record a verse for Cardi’s “Errtime Remix” first-week sales push. According to Latto, things shifted quickly after that. “Literally two days later, I’m seeing all over the internet that I’m being called a p***y,” she said, describing how the online reaction hit her while she was pregnant and emotionally overwhelmed.
Latto went on to explain that the situation felt especially personal because of how she viewed their relationship at the time. She said Cardi B was someone she “deadass looked at as a friend,” and that they had been on a “texting basis.” That’s why, she added, it felt off to her when public comments came before private communication. “Cardi had my number,” she said. “I feel like, yes, you tweeted to the world, but we got each other’s number.”
The rapper also shared that Cardi did not reach out to her directly until about two months later, which left her disappointed in how the situation unfolded. She described the delay as part of what shifted the tone of their relationship, saying it left a “bad taste” in her mouth.
Latto emphasized that while people have framed the situation as a straightforward diss, she sees it as tied to what she was going through at the time. “I was pregnant, emotions tied,” she explained. “It wasn’t a diss, it was where I was in life.”
Still, she made it clear on the show that things between them have not moved forward. Latto confirmed they have not spoken since and that they are “not friends,” though she left the door slightly open for future conversation. “I’m open to a conversation,” she said, “when, I don’t know.”
