An 8-year-old girl from South Bend, Indiana, is facing a long road to recovery after her mother, Jasmine White, accidentally ran her over while playing a game.
White, 27, has been arrested and charged with child neglect following the incident, which left her daughter with severe injuries.
According to reports from WNDU, White and her children often played a game where they would race to the car, and White would pretend to drive away
On the day of the accident, White reportedly moved faster than usual, and the 8-year-old’s foot became trapped under the car’s wheel. The child was dragged for several feet before White realized what had happened.
Footage of the incident shows the young girl hanging onto the side of White’s truck as the vehicle sped through the apartment complex at 15 to 20 mph.
The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later diagnosed with skull and orbital fractures, abrasions, and a large facial laceration that exposed part of her skull. She also lost five teeth.
White has been charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent: one resulting in serious injury and another for placing the child in a dangerous situation. She is scheduled to appear in court soon.
