Vice President Kamala Harris continues to build momentum in her presidential campaign, receiving a key endorsement from former Arizona Senator Jeff Flake.

The Republican, known for his opposition to Donald Trump, threw his support behind Harris as she vies for the White House in one of the most critical swing states of the election.

Flake, a lifelong conservative, announced his endorsement on Sunday through a post on X (formerly Twitter). He praised Harris’ ability to lead the country and emphasized the need to prioritize unity over partisan politics.

“I believe we don’t have to agree on every issue, but we must use the political process to debate and persuade, not disparage and demonize,” he stated.

Flake further encouraged other Republicans to put “country over party” by supporting Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Flake’s endorsement is seen as significant as Arizona, with its 11 electoral votes, could play a decisive role in the upcoming election. Although recent polls suggest a tight race between Harris and Trump, the former president currently holds a slight lead in Arizona.

A USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll shows Trump leading Harris by 6 points in the state, a reflection of how contentious the race is.

Flake’s endorsement comes at a crucial time, as immigration remains a key issue in Arizona. Despite the current polling, Flake expressed confidence in Harris’ bipartisan approach to immigration reform, praising her recent campaign visit to the U.S.-Mexico border.

While Harris faces a tough battle, Flake’s endorsement signals growing support from moderate Republicans dissatisfied with Trump’s direction of the GOP.

With Arizona’s battleground status in play, Harris continues to push forward, aiming to flip the state once again, just as Joe Biden did in 2020.
