Coco Gauff Calls on Roger Federer to Launch Women’s Laver Cup

Tennis star Coco Gauff is urging Roger Federer to introduce a women’s version of the Laver Cup, proposing a USA vs. World showdown similar to the current men’s format.

The Laver Cup, co-founded by Federer, features Team Europe and Team World competing annually. However, Gauff, currently ranked among the WTA’s top 10 alongside Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro, and Australian Open champion Madison Keys, took to Instagram to advocate for a female counterpart.

“USA vs. World Laver Cup????” Gauff wrote, sharing an image of American women’s tennis stars.

While Tony Godsick, Federer’s business partner and Laver Cup co-founder, acknowledged last year that a women’s event is a possibility, no concrete plans have been announced.

“It will take time to create a fitting format,” Godsick previously stated. “First, we want to maximize the men’s Laver Cup before exploring other options.”

Godsick also pointed to the Hopman Cup, a mixed-gender team event, as an existing format that incorporates both men and women.

Despite the lack of official developments, Gauff’s push has reignited discussions about expanding team-based competition in women’s tennis, potentially setting the stage for a new global event.
