Fantasia Barrino has opened up about her past fertility struggles.
During the recent episode of The Tamron Hall Show, Barrino — who is expecting her first child with husband Kendall Taylor — broke down her emotional journey to conceive.
“At first, we thought we were going to have to do different things,” Barrino. “This is a three-year journey we’ve been on.”
She says that those around her were urging her to consider In Vitro Fertilization. The couple went to see a doctor who told her that one of her fallopian tubes were closed. They decided to take a break from the process and left the matter in God’s hands.
Any woman under age 35 and undergoes IVF has a 39.6% chance of having a baby. That percentage drops to just an 11.5% chance if she’s over 40. The odds of having a baby on the first IVF attempt is only 29.5 percent.
“I kid you not, I forgot about it,” she told Hall. “And then I woke up one night, and I was just like, ‘Something’s different.’ “
Barrino took a total of six pregnancy tests before throwing one at her husband. “I was so excited.”
“When she threw [the test] at me, I was like, ‘Yo, you playing? Are you serious?’ ” Taylor told the publication. “And from that point, it just increased our faith even more.”
Barrino announced her pregnancy in late November. Barrino has two children from previous relationships — Dallas Xavier, 9, and Zion Quari, 19 — and Taylor has a son named Treyshaun.
