For fans left disappointed after hearing the release of Issa Rae’s romantic comedy, The Lovebirds would be postponed will be pleased to hear that Netflix has acquired the movie — so we will soon all be able to watch it from home.

The movie was already slated for an April 3 release date.

The movie also goes down in history as the first studio movie pulled from a theatrical release to be placed at a non-studio streaming service, according to THR.

The film is directed by Michael Showalter and stars Kumail Nanjiani and Rae as a couple who experience a defining moment in their relationship when they unintentionally find themselves in a murder mystery.

“Every time there’s an interracial romance, it feels like it centers on whiteness, and it doesn’t have to,” Rae told Variety last month. “Just so you know, there are people who don’t procreate with just white people.”

The Insecure creator also told Entertainment Weekly, “Initially they were written for white people which, plot-wise, would have been a different story. It’s not a story about race but we wanted to acknowledge our race and the fact that we’re an interracial couple.”
