Meghan Markle’s father has taken to the media again in an attempt to reach out to his daughter who reports say he has not seen since she entered the royal family.
In an interview with Good Morning Britain, the 79-year-old pleaded with his daughter and her husband Prince Harry to allow him to see his two grandchildren: Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 1.
Thomas took no time to get to the fact that he has not seen his daughter in five years – the last time being while he was lying in a hospital bed.
“I’m heartbroken. I am very upset. This is a cruel thing to do to a grandparent – to deny the right to see a grandchild,” he said. “In California I can actually sue to see them but I don’t want to do that. The other thing is I’ve done nothing wrong. There’s nothing that points to say I’m a bad guy.”
He continued: “I’m a really loving father and she knows that, and there’s no excuse for treating me this way – no excuse to treat grandparents that way.”
When asked how Meghan used to be before the fame, he said: “Meghan lived with me from sixth grade to high school and I never saw anything like that. I never saw the kind of woman she turned into. I am shocked,” adding that “she is not the person I knew as my daughter.”
He was then asked if Prince Harry had something to do with why she changed.
“I think she has an influence on Harry more than he does on her,” he explained. “I am always here for her, I still love her – I’ll love her forever. That will never change but I want her to reach out to me and let me see my grandkids and let me have a little peace.”
He added: “People go to prison for five years and they’re forgiven – I didn’t do anything. So forgive me I guess. I would always apologize for anything I’ve done wrong. I’m sorry if I have.”
He further went on to compare himself to King Charles, stating that both of them have been not been given the opportunity to build relationships with their grandchildren.
“King Charles has done nothing wrong too and he is denied the kids as well as I am.”
When asked if he thinks Prince William and Prince Harry will reunite, he responded: “I’m open to it any time but I don’t see it coming. He’s not open to peaceful solutions I don’t think. And I don’t think either is Meghan. Unless both are onboard it’s not going to happen.”
