The founder of the #MeToo movement, Tarana Burke, kicking off the New Year by leading the New Year’s Eve ball drop in New York’s Times Square. The Harlem-based activist announced the big news via her Twitter account.

The #MeToo movement was started by Burke over a decade ago, but went viral after Hollywood actress Alyssa Milano posted the following tweet:

Milano later credited Burke as the creator of the #MeToo campaign live on television during the Good Morning America show.
