Teyana Taylor made headlines last week after she announced that she would be retiring from music — but the beloved r&b singer has announced a new gig — as Creative Director for global clothing brand, Pretty Little Thing.
“Dirty 30 and its time make some more BIG moves. Remember when I said “when one door closes another one opens..either that or I’m picking the locks”? Well I damn sure did,” she wrote. “I am proud to announce that I have officially been named CREATIVE DIRECTOR of @prettylittlething We’re going to be collaborating on some amazing projects together and i cannot wait to get started!”
Taylor decided to walk away from music after an ongoing, internal battle with record label Def Jam. During a video address to her fans, the star shared that she had been feeling undervalued and that she had urged the label to free her several times over the years.
“The majority of what that post was to warn my label who I’ve been signed to for almost 10 years. Everything that you guys see of me, everything that I put out, everything that I do is 100% me,” Taylor told her fans during the livestream. “There’s no gun to anybody’s head to do anything that they don’t want to do. So yes, I am going to feel under appreciated if I’m putting in 110% and my label is giving me — they’re reciprocating, what, 10% of that.”
“The crazy part about it is I asked Def Jam to drop me on almost 10 different occasions, straight to their face, up in the building, at the table. Like, ‘Yo, just drop me, because at this point, I can’t let this kill me,'” she said.
ShineMyCrown is excited about Teyana Taylor’s news. We can’t wait to see what she’s been cooking up!
