They say the best way to heal yourself from being hurt in the past is to forgive. Forgiving someone is hard to do, but itâs best if you want to move on in life. Thatâs what legendary singer Tina Turner did.
Everyone knows the story of Ike and Tina Turner from the 1993 biopic âWhatâs Love Got To Do With Itâ. The film depicted the turnerâs turbulent relationship that lasted for 14 years. During an interview back in 1990 Ike admitted that he physically abused Tine while they were married, stating âAll the fights Tina and I had were about her being sad about something. I get real emotional if youâre worrying and donât tell me what it is. Then I canât about nothing else. So Iâd slap her or something like that.â
In a recent interview with The Times UK, the Rock ân Roll Hall Of Fame inductee opened up about the domestic violence she endured throughout that marriage and how she has forgiven her ex-husband for what heâs done.
âAs an old person, I have forgiven him, but it would not work with him, He asked for one more tour with me, and I said, âNo, absolutely not.â Ike wasnât someone you could forgive and allow him back in. Itâs all gone, all forgotten.â
Along with that she also opened up about how she still thinks of Ike, who passed away back in 2007. âI donât know what the dreams are about,â she explained. âThe dreams are still there â not the violence, the anger. I wonder if Iâm still holding something in.â
Tina who now lives in Scotland with her husband Erwin Bach is a true testament to how to overcome hurt and pain. Forgiving an abuser sometimes is the hardest thing to do but, in the end, itâs the best.
