They say the best way to heal yourself from being hurt in the past is to forgive. Forgiving someone is hard to do, but itās best if you want to move on in life. Thatās what legendary singer Tina Turner did.
Everyone knows the story of Ike and Tina Turner from the 1993 biopic āWhatās Love Got To Do With Itā. The film depicted the turnerās turbulent relationship that lasted for 14 years. During an interview back in 1990 Ike admitted that he physically abused Tine while they were married, stating āAll the fights Tina and I had were about her being sad about something. I get real emotional if youāre worrying and donāt tell me what it is. Then I canāt about nothing else. So Iād slap her or something like that.ā
In a recent interview with The Times UK, the Rock ān Roll Hall Of Fame inductee opened up about the domestic violence she endured throughout that marriage and how she has forgiven her ex-husband for what heās done.
āAs an old person, I have forgiven him, but it would not work with him, He asked for one more tour with me, and I said, āNo, absolutely not.ā Ike wasnāt someone you could forgive and allow him back in. Itās all gone, all forgotten.ā
Along with that she also opened up about how she still thinks of Ike, who passed away back in 2007. āI donāt know what the dreams are about,ā she explained. āThe dreams are still there ā not the violence, the anger. I wonder if Iām still holding something in.ā
Tina who now lives in Scotland with her husband Erwin Bach is a true testament to how to overcome hurt and pain. Forgiving an abuser sometimes is the hardest thing to do but, in the end, itās the best.
