ShineMyCrown teamed up with Culture Playground, a Black-owned visual magazine, and forum, to bring you our first official collaboration — “The Crown.”
The video is a celebration of Black women and their crowns.
“Black girl,” the video begins. “Black women are born with crowns. But sometimes, it’s hard to see you’re royalty when you don’t know your lineage. When you can’t see the greatness, you hold inside of you reflected back in images of people like you. People who came before you.”
The monologue, which features a montage of uplifting images continues, “It’s hard to see that power. That beauty. When your world is filled with people who doubt the command of your crown. Who doubt the validity of its beauty. Who show you images of the people like you, the people who came before you, beaten, caged, and downtrodden.”
The Crown is just the first in a long line of upcoming collaborations with Culture Playground.
“There are so many layers of our culture that excite us and we wanted to highlight those elements through our perspectives. We began laying out the visuals and watched our ideas bloom into life,” CP’s website reads. “The idea of nostalgia and always being in tune with your inner child as everyone grows is such a timeless theme. When thinking of a universal symbol, a playground was the first thing that came to mind.”
