Keri Hilson is making waves following her admission to using shrooms. In this interview, the singer opened up about her surprising solution for combating depression: medically-assisted psilocybin, commonly known as “shrooms.”
Hilson has been candid about her battle with depression, which began after she released her 2010 album, No Boys Allowed. She described a time when she felt “dim,” losing her vitality and ultimately stepping away from music for a while. During the podcast, she recounted how she consulted with a doctor who guided her through two “macro doses” of medicinal mushrooms.
At first, Hilson admitted she was apprehensive about trying psychedelics. However, after researching the subject and discovering that many individuals attend retreats for healing with shrooms, she felt empowered to proceed. Hilson emphasized that her experience wasn’t “trippy.” Instead, she described it as a soothing journey lasting between eight to ten hours that offered her a fresh outlook on life.
According to Hilson, this experience transformed her perspective. “Things became clearer,” she shared. She emerged with a revitalized sense of hope and a rekindled enthusiasm for living. “I have never been in a dark place for long or as dark since then. Like I can confidently say that cured my depression,” she stated.
“I remember passing a mirror one of the two times, and I realized I had been happy. But I passed a mirror and I saw a smile on my face and I’m like, ‘That’s weird,'” she added. “So I tried to wipe the smile off my face, and I literally couldn’t, ’cause I was like, That’s freaking weird. Like, the doctor’s here. I look nuts. I’m sure I look nuts.”
