Former First Lady Michelle Obama has voiced her apprehension about the upcoming 2024 election cycle, emphasizing the critical role of leadership in the nation’s future.

Speaking on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast, Obama underscored the profound impact of selecting leaders, urging people not to take democracy for granted.

“Our leaders matter. Who we select, who speaks for us, who holds that bully pulpit – it affects us in ways that sometimes I think people take for granted,” Obama expressed.

She added emphatically:

“I am terrified about what could possibly happen.”

She admitted to being terrified about the potential outcomes and stressed the significance of recognizing the vital role government plays in citizens’ lives.

While not directly naming former President Donald Trump, Obama highlighted concerns about political candidates using divisive rhetoric that continues to polarize the nation.

She emphasized the need for thoughtful and authentic leadership, expressing disdain for behavior she described as “childish” and “base.”

Discussing the challenges faced by Black individuals in politics, Obama noted disparities, pointing out that a Black man facing numerous indictments would face barriers to running for the highest office. She highlighted the resilience required by Black individuals navigating such hurdles.

As the Democratic party grapples with declining enthusiasm among Black constituents, Obama urged the adoption of new strategies to reengage support.

Recent surveys indicate a decline in support for President Joe Biden among Black Americans, emphasizing the need for effective outreach.

Former President Barack Obama has advised Biden to reevaluate and modify the structure of his reelection campaign in anticipation of what is expected to be a closely contested battle for the White House, as reported by the Washington Post.

The statements from Michelle and Barack Obama reflect the heightened concerns and strategic considerations within the Democratic party as the 2024 election looms.
