Simon Rex, an actor who worked alongside former Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, claims he was offered $70k to make false allegations about his past with her.
Rex chopped it up with the Hollywood Raw Podcast, where he made the startling revelation.
“Nothing happened. We never even kissed. We hung out once in a very non-datey way,” he explained. “But it gets spun into we dated. She was just someone that I met on a TV show and we got lunch. That was the extent of it. Nothing happened, just to be clear.”
The British media began hounding Markle after she went public with her relationship to Royal family member Prince Harry. The tabloids deny singling Markle out because of her race, but comparisons between Markle’s coverage and that of Prince Williams wife Kate Middleton are light night and day.
Rex says his conscience would not allow him to do it.
“It’s funny because the tabloids actually, when that story broke, a couple British tabloids offered to pay me a lot of money to say a lie that we actually hooked up. I said no to a lot of money because I didn’t feel right lying and fcking up the royal fcking family. I didn’t want to be whacked in the alley of London because I f*cking lied.”
In October, Prince Harry released a statement announcing that they would be suing tabloid publication the Mail. In it, he drew comparisons between the press’ treatment of his wife to that of his mother, Princess Diana.
“Though this action may not be the safe one,” Prince Harry wrote in his statement, “it is the right one. Because my deepest fear is history repeating itself. I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditised to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”
Markle and husband Prince Harry announced in February that they would be stepping down from their positions as senior members of the royal family, and would be spending their time between Canada and the U.K., and focusing on their charity.
