Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson made WNBA history on Sunday, becoming the first player to score 1,000 points in a single season.
Wilson reached the milestone during the Aces’ 84-71 win over the Connecticut Sun, finishing the game with 29 points.
Wilson’s historic moment came with just two minutes remaining, when she hit a pull-up jumper from the elbow to reach the 1,000-point mark.
Her achievement followed her breaking the league’s single-season scoring record earlier in the week, a record previously held by Jewell Loyd.
After hitting the shot, Wilson was mobbed by her teammates as the Aces called timeout to celebrate the moment. The crowd responded with a standing ovation, and Wilson acknowledged their support with applause.
The Aces’ win improved their record to 25-13, giving them a one-game lead over the Seattle Storm for the No. 4 seed in the playoffs and home-court advantage.
Wilson’s performance was pivotal, particularly in the third quarter where she scored 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, and blocked two shots.
Connecticut, now 27-11, is chasing the Minnesota Lynx for the No. 2 seed. The Sun struggled offensively, especially in the third quarter, shooting just 4 of 16 from the field and missing all five of their 3-point attempts.
Wilson’s outstanding night was supported by Kelsey Plum, who added 14 points, including a key 3-pointer that sparked an 11-1 run to close the first half.
Marina Mabrey led Connecticut with 18 points, while Brionna Jones contributed 17 points and nine rebounds.
