Former Vice President Kamala Harris is sharply criticizing what she described as an unauthorized military conflict initiated by President Donald Trump, urging Congress to intervene immediately to halt further escalation.
In a video posted on Instagram and recorded during a visit to small businesses in Detroit, Harris said the decision to enter the conflict was made without public support and placed American troops at unnecessary risk.
“This is Donald Trump’s war of choice,” Harris said. “He has dragged us into a war the American people do not want. He has put American troops in harm’s way.”

Strong Opposition to Military Action
Speaking in remarks later aired by Fox News, Harris reiterated her position, stating she “unequivocally” opposes the conflict and believes lawmakers must act swiftly.
“If we want to stop Donald Trump with this random decision that he has arrived at, then Congress must act — and Congress must act immediately,” she said.
Harris also emphasized public concern about the deployment of U.S. service members, adding that Americans do not want “our sons and daughters to go into this unauthorized war.”
Political and Constitutional Stakes
Her comments highlight growing debate in Washington over presidential war powers and congressional oversight of military engagements.
Under the U.S. Constitution, Congress holds the authority to declare war, though presidents have historically initiated military actions without formal declarations — often sparking legal and political disputes.
Harris’ statement signals potential efforts among lawmakers to invoke legislative mechanisms to limit or challenge executive military authority.
