I like to think that I know many of the Black-owned skincare brands. One that appeared to have slipped past me was Nyakio (pronounced NEY – KAY – OH.) Which is surprising as they are also under theSundial Brands umbrella.
Representatives for the brand reached out and asked whether I’d like to try a few of their products, and as a self-confessed product junkie, I said “Yes. Yes. Yes”. The products arrived just a few days later, and I was not left disappointed!
So, I was sent the following products:
Sweet Almond Cleansing Oil Balm – Cleanse
Kenyan Coffee Face Polish – Exfoliate
Quinoa Depuffing & Firming Cream – Moisturize
Chamomile Sleep Mask – Treat
I used the products in the exact order listed above, and from the very first use, I was impressed to say the very least.
The Sweet Almond Cleansing Balm helps to remove any makeup/product buildup on the skin. The balm quickly softens, is easily smoothed over the skin. It smells divine too!
The Kenyan Coffee Face Polish didn’t smell strong of coffee like I was expecting it to, it does possess a pleasant, delicate fragrance. However, there’s nothing delicate about this polish’s exfoliation qualities. Loaded with Shea butter, castor oil, aloe and a plethora of other organic and natural products, the obligatory apricot seed powder (any face polish worth it’s salt will will have this, salt or sugar as the main exfoliant) is just the right amount, of course, to get in there and give your pores a good scrubbing! It’s outstanding!
After giving my face a good polish, it was on to the Quinoa Depuffing & Firming Eye Cream. As a mother of two under threes and a teenage daughter, puffy eyes are something that I frequently suffer from. And though I have gotten my little ones into a fairly rigid bedtime routine, there are nights when my two-year-old refuses to go down until late… hence my puffy eyes! I have to say; of all of the Nyakio products I tried, this one is my absolute fave! After squeezing a tiny amount of the cream onto the inbuilt ceramic applicator, you gently massage your under eye area for 15 seconds, ad the applicator is cool every time! Ugh. So relaxing. After a few days of using this, I definitely noticed a difference. The skin did appear to be much firmer and less tired looking. This eye cream is a mother’s best friend! I strongly recommend using this twice daily to achieve maximum results.
And lastly, the Chamomile Soothing Sleep Mask. The scent is just so mild. The mask goes on smoothly, just like a regular moisturizer and it keeps your skin fully moisturized overnight. No more waking up with dry, flaky or oily skin in the morning. With this mask, you can genuinely say “I Woke Up Like This,” – it’s pretty flawless. Just wash off in the early morning and start this routine over!
Nyakio was a beautiful surprise. My teenage daughter is also a convert, copping her own Sweet Almond Cleansing Balm (which she absolutely loves.) Great quality brand. I’ll be using their eye cream FOREVER!
