Authorities in Mississippi have confirmed that Ebony Owens, a 36-year-old woman who went missing Wednesday has been shot and killed, although her body has still not been found.

According to WAPT, Owens disappeared Wednesday afternoon after her family contacted police to say they could not find her whereabouts. Detectives had named her husband, Michael Owens, a person of interest and took him in for questioning the following day. He would soon be charged with murder and arson.

Investigators began their search after conducting a welfare check at the home Owens shared with her husband and two children, aged seven and 11. The victim is the mother of four children in total.

The Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that there is “electronic evidence that shows Ebony Owens was last known to be in the Clinton and Interstate 20 area Tuesday night. Her car, a white 2015 Acura TLX was also missing,” according to WAPT.

Police say deputies responded to a call of a burning car in the Old Highway 80/Jones Road area. “The damage was so severe that they could not determine the make or model of the car, but after information was released about the missing Acura, deputies returned to the scene, found the license plate in an area nearby and determined the burned vehicle belonged to Ebony Owens,” the report revealed.

Evidence has also been found with the help of Warren County sheriff’s deputies during a search Wednesday night in an area near Flowers. Authorities are now looking to locate her remains. They believe her body may be at a local river, where an active search is underway.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has been called to assist with the search. Meanwhile, Owens’ children have been living with family members who are caring for them.
