Breaking news is coming out of the Real Housewives of Atlanta world today after one of its stars has shared that her surrogate has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Shamea Morton made the announcement while hosting a show on the popular Atlanta radio station V-103, while Shadina Blunt, who is carrying her second child, and Dr. Jackie from Married to Medicine, sat alongside her.

“The journey took a twist and I couldn’t do this without [Dr.] Jackie. So, we, unfortunately, found some abnormal cells in my breast so we are going to have to deliver this sweet baby early, unfortunately,” Blunt stated.

Shamea then elucidated what Blunt meant. “Shadina was diagnosed with breast cancer,” she clarified. “But that is just a quick little page in your story—that is not your story. That is not your end all.”

Last November, Kandi Burruss told her Instagram followers that Blunt would be Morton’s surrogate after she served as the former Xscape bandmate’s surrogate for her second child, Blaze.

Blunt was noticeably traumatized while delivering the news, which led Morton to comfort and thank her for being the “biggest blessing.”

On Tuesday, Blunt went into early labor and took to Instagram Live to share that everything was going well.

“12 hours in and we are doing well,” she said. “Thank you for the support and prayers.”

Morton is married to Gerald Mwinge. They share one daughter, Shya Mwinge.

According to the National Cancer Institute, surrogacy is a “type of pregnancy in which a woman carries and gives birth to a baby for a person who is not able to have children. In a surrogate pregnancy, eggs from the woman who will carry the baby or from an egg donor are fertilized with sperm from a sperm donor to make an embryo. The embryo is implanted in the uterus of the surrogate mother, who carries the baby until birth.”
