Shakira’s upcoming Brazil concert has been overshadowed by tragedy after a construction worker died following an accident during stage assembly in Rio de Janeiro.

The incident occurred on Sunday, April 26, as crews prepared for the singer’s scheduled performance as part of the Todo Mundo no Rio concert series, an annual event held at Copacabana Beach that brings major international acts to a free show for local residents. Organizers confirmed that the worker was part of the team assembling structures for the highly anticipated event.

In a statement shared on Instagram and translated from Portuguese, Todo Mundo no Rio organizers said the accident took place on Sunday afternoon and involved a professional working on the stage setup. First responders provided immediate care at the scene before the Fire Department transported the worker to a hospital. He later died from his injuries.

Local fire authorities, speaking to Reuters and citing eyewitness accounts, said the worker suffered severe injuries after becoming trapped in a lifting system during the construction process. The victim’s identity has not been publicly released.

The concert series, which has previously featured headliners such as Madonna and Lady Gaga, is set against the backdrop of Copacabana Beach and typically draws large crowds. Shakira’s appearance is part of her ongoing Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, which has taken her across multiple countries over the past year.

As preparations continue for the upcoming performance, the confirmed loss has drawn attention to the events leading up to the show, with organizers acknowledging the incident and the response efforts that followed.
