Solange Takes Fans Through A Cosmic Journey On ‘Orions Rise’ Tour #BlackGirlMagic

If you’ve ever seen Solange perform then you know her sets are anything but ordinary. Earlier this week she shut down New York’s Radio City Music Hall, in a way that only Solange can.

Solo transformed the music hall into a night sky when her Orion’s Rise tour series made a stop. Known for her artsy visuals, she even brought her own supergiant which changed colors for different song selections. She performed every track from A Seat At The Table, with each song paying tribute to Orion’s Belt. The supergiant burned red, resembling Betelgeuse, for songs like “Rise” and “Mad.” For old favorites like “Lovers In The Parking Lot” and “T.O.N.Y.” the star glowed blue-white, modeling after Rigel.

The show featured performances from Christophe Chassol, the Sun Ra Arkestra and Earl Sweatshirt as opening acts. Earth Wind & Fire’s Verdine White also joined Solange on stage to perform “Bad Girls (Verdine Version),” exuding family reunion vibes. 

Before closing the show, she reflected on the days leading up to the release of A Seat At The Table. She recalled working through some of the trauma that black women often face. “I needed to put the album out to heal for myself,” she said.

She later wrote a sentimental post on Instagram in regards to the show. “These #orionsrise shows are really about spiritual transition for me… about having the opportunity to exchange and engage versus entertain, and I couldn’t have asked for a better night and a better room to feel those feels with. Thank you!”

The Orion’s Rise tour will finish at The Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA at the end of the month.
