Mexican actress Kate Del Castillo is now more known for her friendship with Joaquin Guzman, known across the globe as El Chapo, than her filmography. To many, she is the main reason behind the infamous Druglord’s capture.
This week, Netflix announced Castillo’s biographical series The Day I Met El Chapo: The Kate del Castillo Story, which will debut exclusively on NetflixOctober 20, 2017.
The three-part series centers on Kate’s side of her encounter with El Chapo. It also includes never-before-seen footage and exclusive details of what led to the controversial meeting between El Chapo, Hollywood star Sean Penn and Castillo, who was one of Mexico’s most famous television actresses at the time.
“As an actress I’ve been given the opportunity to portray fascinating fictional characters, roles I am very proud of. Now I get the chance to tell my story, my reality, my truth. This project will dive into how it began, why I pursued accepting the rights to the life story of one of the most controversial narco figures and what happened after,” said Kate del Castillo.
“I was extremely excited to delve into the craziest ‘life imitating art’ saga I’ve ever heard, a story wrapped around a core of complex social and political issues. I’m honored that Kate gave me the opportunity to tell her truth,” said David Broome, series creator, and executive producer.
The series is produced by 25/7 Productions and Kate del Castillo Productions. The executive producers include David Broome, Yong Yam and Kate del Castillo with Carlos Armella as director.
