On May 4, the superstar stepped onto the iconic stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the first time since 2016, marking a long-awaited comeback that fans had been anticipating for years. This time, the moment carried even more meaning as she arrived alongside her 14-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, and her husband, Jay-Z.
The night doubled as a family milestone. Speaking during her Vogue interview on the red carpet, Beyoncé shared what the moment meant to her. “It feels surreal because my daughter is here. She looks so beautiful. This is incredible to be able to share with her. And I think she looks so incredible,” she said, reflecting on experiencing the event with Blue Ivy by her side.
For her return, Beyoncé delivered one of the evening’s most talked-about looks, aligning with the night’s “Fashion Is Art” dress code. She wore a crystal-covered naked gown designed by Olivier Rousteing, featuring a detailed skeleton motif that extended down to the hands. The look was elevated with an oversized blue and white feathered cape, a crystal-embellished headpiece, and layers of diamonds from Chopard. Her hair fell in long curls down her back, completing a striking visual that quickly circulated across social media.
Beyoncé explained her choice to collaborate with Rousteing, pointing to their creative history together. “I’ve done so many iconic looks with him, so it’s really about representing him,” she said.
The 2026 Met Gala coincided with the debut of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Costume Art,” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, setting the tone for the evening’s fashion direction.
