Olympic gymnast Simone Biles has revealed details about her relationship with NFL star, Jonathan Owens.
The couple, who met on the celebrity dating app Raya in March 2020, opened up about their journey from the initial meeting to their two weddings in 2023.
Biles candidly shared that she was initially attracted to Owens’ looks but was equally drawn to his kindness and confidence.
“If I’m going to be honest, obviously, he’s very fine. Besides his looks, he was so sweet and kind, and I think what I liked about him was his confidence. He truly believes he’s the best at everything,” Biles told Vanity Fair in a recent interview.
The couple’s connection sparked on Raya, with Biles taking the initiative to slide into Owens’ DMs. Despite Owens later admitting that he initially didn’t know who the Olympic champion was, they hit it off when they met in person just days after connecting on the app.
After nearly two years of dating, Owens proposed to Biles on Valentine’s Day in 2022. The couple tied the knot twice in 2023, first in a civil ceremony in Houston last April and again in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in May.
Owens faced some criticism after revealing in a podcast interview that he wasn’t aware of Biles’ Olympic achievements initially. He explained that he was busy with college and training during that time.
However, their love story unfolded, and Owens, despite his initial fear of commitment, fell in love with Biles.
Biles, the first Black gymnast to win the all-around World Championship title in 2013, shared her reluctance to join the dating app after a breakup.
“My guard went straight up when she said ‘dating site.’ The second week, I met him in person, and the rest is history. We were hooked,” she recalled.
Speaking about their two weddings, Biles expressed the joy she felt, saying:
“I’ve never had so much fun in my life. I was 19 when I won my first Olympics, and I was like, How am I supposed to top this? My wedding topped it. It was the greatest feeling ever.”
The Vanity Fair interview with Simone Biles is featured in the magazine’s Jan. 23 issue.
