This morning (October 5th), the nominees for the 2018 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame were announced. Amongst the nominees for induction, is Jazz icon, Nina Simone, a well overdue nod.
Alongside Simone, LL Cool J, The Meters, Rufus featuring Link Wray and Chaka Khan and Sister Rosetta Tharpe are also nominees.
Artists can only be eligible for nomination 25 years after the release of their first recording. The selections are shortlisted by a nominating committee. Then, a voting body of about 800 artists, historians, and music industry figures. There is an opportunity to get your fave inducted, by taking part in the year Fan Vote. Fan votes will collectively count as one of the roughly 800 ballots that will determine the new inductees. The nominees will then be whittled down to the five inductees. The final five will then be announced in December.
