April Danielle Ryan (born September 5, 1967) is a highly respected American journalist, author, and White House Correspondent.
With more than 28 years covering the White House, she is one of the longest-serving Black journalists in the press corps and a prominent voice on urban issues, race relations, and national politics.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Ryan graduated from Morgan State University with a degree in broadcast journalism. She began her career in local radio before joining American Urban Radio Networks in 1997 as White House Correspondent and Washington Bureau Chief.
She has covered five U.S. presidents, from Bill Clinton to Joe Biden, and has conducted notable interviews with Barack and Michelle Obama, among many others.
Ryan currently serves as White House Correspondent for The Grio and Washington Bureau Chief for Black Press USA. In 2023, she joined MSNBC as a political contributor.
She is the author of several books, including The Presidency in Black and White, At Mama’s Knee, Under Fire, and Black Women Will Save the World.
Known for her persistence and willingness to ask tough questions, Ryan has received numerous honors, including Journalist of the Year from the National Association of Black Journalists (2017) and the Freedom of the Press Award.
