“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Marlo Hampton has found herself at the center of controversy after sharing her thoughts on Black women’s hair during a recent social media video.
Reality star and fashion known for her candid takes addressed a hot topic head-on: why Black women often wear fake hair. In a recent unfiltered video, Hampton spoke her truth while in a bathroom robe and makeup-free, showing fans a stripped-down version of herself.
In the video, while removing her makeup, Marlo stated, “Why do Black women wear so much fake hair? Because we don’t have a lot of hair. That’s why y’all be so funny. Talking about why Black women wear so much fake hair? Because we look fabulous wearing it. And some of us don’t have a lot of hair, so it’s okay. Because as long as there’s fake hair, we’ve got as much hair as we desire.”
She continued,” “This is what we look like, ladies. For everyone who thinks that we are always flawless. No. We take the makeup off, and guess what? This is what it is.”
In 2021, Marlo Hamptom, famous for always being put together, blew fans’ minds when she opened up to her 1.4 million Instagram followers about her surgical journey to restore her edges.
The reality star revealed she decided to undergo the procedure to reclaim the hairline she had lost from the tug of tight braids and lace frontals.
“I couldn’t just wear a ponytail. You know, usually, if you have sparse edges, you have to swoop the hair down and back to cover the thinning places,” Marlo Hampton explained then. “I’m like, I want to be able to pull my hair up and let the wind blow and not be worried about my real hair.”
She also shared the side effects after the procedure on Instagram Live.
“All the fluid and everything from my head just went to my face. In a couple of days, it should be going down,” she explained then. Although Marlo had two black eyes and her face was swollen, she declared the procedure “was so worth it.
