Erykah Badu is currently trending online after a recent interview with Vulture was published online.
Badu, who is revered for thinking outside of the box, stepped too far outside of it for some people readers, who are outraged at Baduâs answers. Following a question where Badu was apparently linked to Farrakhanâs alleged anti-semitism, Badu stated that she does not like to take sides, remarking:
âWeâre not, and Iâm okay with that. Iâm also okay with anything I had to say about Louis Farrakhan. But Iâm not an anti-Semitic person. I donât even know what anti-Semitic was before I was called it. Iâm a humanist. I see good in everybody. I saw something good in Hitler.â The âLove of my Lifeâ singer also went on to add:
âYou asked me a question. I couldâve chosen not to answer. I donât walk around thinking about Hitler or Louis Farrakhan. But I understand what youâre saying: âWhy would you want to risk fueling hateful thinking?â I have a platform, and I would never want to hurt people. I would never do that. I would never even imagine doing that. I would never even want a group of white men who believe that the Confederate flag is worth saving to feel bad. Thatâs not how I operate.â
Erykah frequently gives us tongue in cheek, almost flippant answers during her interviews, but unfortunately, if any of her responses were supposed to be light-hearted and sarcastic, it wasnât translated in the article, and her followers had plenty to say online.
