“Power” actress Naturi Naughton says she stands by Phylicia Rashad after “The Cosby Show” actress faced backlash for her public support of Bill Cosby.
“Why are Black People so quick to #Cancel each other!” she wrote on Instagram Story.
The actress added that she is standing with the Howard professor, closing with the hashtag, “#TheCosbyShowChangedLives.”
Cosby’s conviction was overturned last week, and he was freed after spending more than two years in prison for the alleged drugging and sexual assault of former Temple employee Andrea Constand.
“FINALLY!!!! A terrible wrong is being righted- a miscarriage of justice is corrected!” Rashad tweeted upon hearing the news.
Rashad later apologized.
“My remarks were in no way directed towards survivors of sexual assault. I vehemently oppose sexual violence, find no excuse for such behavior, and I know that Howard University has a zero-tolerance policy toward interpersonal violence,” Rashad says in a letter published online on Friday.
Naughton is already receiving criticism for her backing on Rashad, but she it’s unlikely she cares.
She has much to be happy about.
Earlier this year, she revealed she had gotten engaged to her “best friend.”
“I never imagined that one random night in [New York] would change my life so much,” said Naughton. “I had no idea I was about to meet the best teammate ever. Omari Hardwick and I were recording a song together and Omari was like, ‘Oh, you gotta meet my people.’ On that night, I met this kind, handsome, southern gentleman who would love me like I’ve never been loved,” she said at the time.
“From that point on, we talked every day, quietly dated and fell in love,” she continued. “Thank you, TV hubby, for introducing me to my future hubby!”
