Singer Angie Stone recently took to Instagram Live to share a difficult period in her life, revealing a health scare and accusing her former record label, Universal Music, of misappropriating her earnings.

The Grammy-nominated artist opened up about a health scare that left her hospitalized and fighting for her life, only to discover that her record label had allegedly been stealing her hard-earned money during her recovery.

Angie began the live session by diving into her challenging experiences over the past month. She revealed that a routine medical procedure led to a severe blood infection that landed her in the ICU. “This infection that I got when they stuck me with a needle went into my bloodstream and caused a staph infection,” Angie explained.

The infection, which she described as a “Strep infection of the blood,” was so severe that she passed out in the restroom, her oxygen levels plummeting to dangerous levels. “They rushed me into ICU,” she recounted. “It rendered me basically unconscious.” For two weeks, Angie fought to recover from the life-threatening condition.

However, her battle didn’t end there. As Angie regained her strength, she began looking into her finances, she discovered a betrayal that hit just as hard. “I also found out that one of the biggest companies I was with, Universal Music, had been stealing from me,” she revealed with palpable frustration.

Through thorough research into her royalties, publishing, and mechanicals, Angie uncovered discrepancies that pointed to significant financial wrongdoing. “A lot of my publishing, my royalties, my mechanicals—they’ve all pretty much been stolen,” she said.

The singer, who has delivered timeless hits like “Brotha” and “No More Rain (In This Cloud),” expressed her heartbreak and disappointment at this revelation.

“I’m so done with the things that have been going on around me,” she stated. “As we approach the end of 2024, I’m ready to shut it all down and look forward to 2025 with a fresh start.”
