Everyone’s favorite hood classic ‘Set It Off’ is coming back but in a
different way. For those who are unfamiliar with ‘Set It Off,’ it is a film that debuted back in 1996 that starred Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Vivica Fox, and Kimberly Elise.

The film centers around Frankie (Vivica Fox) along with her friends Cleo, Stony, and Tisean struggling with their finances. Realizing that it’s a struggle to make ends meet they decide to start robbing banks. The film was a box office hit, so it’s no wonder the film is now being adapted into a play.

Yes, you read that right, the F. Gary Gray film will soon be on stages. So So Def recording artist Da Brat confirmed this news via her Instagram account on Thursday (February 22nd) with the caption:

“Ladies and Gentleman, allow me to finally reveal my amazingly talented AND gorgeous CAST!! OOOOOOW SHAT!!! A @jecaryous production. SET IT OFF the stage play! Coming to a theatre near you!”

Da Brat expressed how excited she was for landing the role and being a part of the production. The rapper states that the film is one of her favorite movies and that she actually auditioned for the role in the original film, but she didn’t make it. It’s funny how life comes in full circle in the case.

‘Set it Off: the play’ will take place March 9th and 10th at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta and at the Warner Theater in Washington D.C on March 16th and 17th.
